During the summer holiday season, the Balkan regional branch of the National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan is committed to ensuring that the younger generation enjoys a vacation that is not only joyful but also safe. Recently, the branch's staff organized an engaging and informative interactive session for children vacationing at the "Dayanch" Children's Health and Recreation Center, located in "Awaza" National Tourist Zone.

The primary focus of the meeting was to teach essential first-aid skills for addressing various injuries that might occur during active summer games.

Specialists from the Red Crescent Society explained children—in an engaging and accessible way—how to act correctly during emergencies. The lesson program covered key topics: first aid for bruises and sprains, including the proper application of cold compresses and immobilization of the injured area; wound cleaning and treatment, focusing on safe methods to stop bleeding and apply basic bandages; and dealing with heatstroke and heat exhaustion, specifically how to recognize overheating early and assist peers while waiting for medical professionals. Theoretical knowledge was immediately paired with practical exercises. The children enthusiastically took on the roles of rescuers and injured parties, learning how to apply bandages correctly, using available materials, and most importantly call for emergency help promptly and calmly, without panicking.

According to the organizers, the primary goal of these sessions is not merely to provide dry instructions, but to foster self-confidence, a sense of responsibility, and a readiness to help others in difficult situations. Such events organized by the Balkan regional branch help ensure that the summer holidays of Turkmen schoolchildren are truly safe and secure.

THE FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES

– Humanity

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, born of a desire to bring assistance
without discrimination to the wounded on the battlefield, endeavours, in its international and
national capacity, to prevent and alleviate human suffering wherever it may be found. Its purpose
is to protect life and health and to ensure respect for the human being. It promotes mutual
understanding, friendship, cooperation and lasting peace amongst all peoples.

– Impartiality

It makes no discrimination as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions. It
endeavors to relieve the suffering of individuals, being guided solely by their needs, and to give
priority to the most urgent cases of distress.

– Neutrality

In order to continue to enjoy the confidence of all, the Movement may not take sides in hostilities or
engage at any time in controversies of a political, racial, religious or ideological nature.

– Independence

The Movement is independent. The National Societies, while auxiliaries in the humanitarian services
of their governments and subject to the laws of their respective countries, must always maintain
their autonomy so that they may be able at all times to act in accordance with the principles of the
Movement.

– Voluntary service

It is a voluntary relief movement not prompted in any manner by desire for gain.

– Unity

There can be only one Red Cross or one Red Crescent Society in any one country. It must be open
to all. It must carry on its humanitarian work throughout its territory.

– Universality

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, in which all Societies have equal status
and share equal responsibilities and duties in helping each other, is worldwide.
