The National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan hosted a training on “Security Risk Management,” organized under the UNHCR project “Strengthening the Emergency Preparedness and Humanitarian Response Capacity of the National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan.” The training was delivered by project coordinator Arslan Ovezov, drawing on the knowledge and experience he gained at the UNHCR regional workshop in Hua Hin, Thailand. The main goal of the training was to help specialists better prepare for emergencies and protect people who live and work in difficult conditions.

The sessions were conducted in clear and accessible language. Participants learned about threats, vulnerabilities and risks, how to assess them, and how to reduce their potential consequences in advance. Particular attention was paid to field-trip safety, procedures to follow in the event of an incident, communication with people and the media during a crisis, and staff well-being, including stress management.

As a result of the training, participants gained practical skills that they can apply directly in their daily work, including assessing risks, developing security plans, and responding calmly and effectively during the first minutes of an incident. This training strengthens the country’s readiness to prevent and respond to emergencies effectively, and deepens Turkmenistan’s cooperation with UNHCR.
