On the occasion of October 1st — the International Day of Older Persons — festive events filled with great respect and warmth were held across every corner of our country. The volunteers of the National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan, who carry out outstanding work in dedicated service to the older generation and in providing them with social and spiritual support, remained faithful to their noble traditions once again. To mark the holiday, the society's united volunteers visited the Nursing Home and organized a solemn event full of unforgettable moments for the grandfathers and grandmothers living there.

As part of the event, the young volunteers presented specially prepared musical performances and engaging sketches. The uplifting songs, national dances, and life-centered scenes performed by the youth brought a special joy and festive excitement to the Nursing Home. During the stage performances, the elders' school of life, their wisdom, and their unshakeable place in our society were praised through artistic language. Every single performance was welcomed with warm applause by the residents.

This wonderful holiday gift prepared by the volunteers uplifted the spirits of our dear elders and brought them boundless joy. With hearts full of happiness, the grandfathers and grandmothers joined in the youth's performances, showing that they are still young at heart and possess a high love for life. The warmth and attention bestowed upon them earned the profound gratitude of every elder.

At the end of the event, the residents of the Nursing Home expressed their deep appreciation and said many thanks to the young volunteers for the high esteem and affection shown to them. Following the noble traditions of our people, our elders and mothers sincerely gave their blessings (ak bata) for the prosperity of the youth's future, the peaceful skies of our country, and the tranquility of our state.

This event, which was highly interesting, touching, and inspiring, became a vivid celebration of our centuries-old national respect between generations, the honor given to the older generation, and the humanitarian principles of the National Red Crescent Society.

THE FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES

– Humanity

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, born of a desire to bring assistance
without discrimination to the wounded on the battlefield, endeavours, in its international and
national capacity, to prevent and alleviate human suffering wherever it may be found. Its purpose
is to protect life and health and to ensure respect for the human being. It promotes mutual
understanding, friendship, cooperation and lasting peace amongst all peoples.

– Impartiality

It makes no discrimination as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions. It
endeavors to relieve the suffering of individuals, being guided solely by their needs, and to give
priority to the most urgent cases of distress.

– Neutrality

In order to continue to enjoy the confidence of all, the Movement may not take sides in hostilities or
engage at any time in controversies of a political, racial, religious or ideological nature.

– Independence

The Movement is independent. The National Societies, while auxiliaries in the humanitarian services
of their governments and subject to the laws of their respective countries, must always maintain
their autonomy so that they may be able at all times to act in accordance with the principles of the
Movement.

– Voluntary service

It is a voluntary relief movement not prompted in any manner by desire for gain.

– Unity

There can be only one Red Cross or one Red Crescent Society in any one country. It must be open
to all. It must carry on its humanitarian work throughout its territory.

– Universality

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, in which all Societies have equal status
and share equal responsibilities and duties in helping each other, is worldwide.
