There are many volunteers of the National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan who know various foreign languages, such as English, Chinese, Korean, Russian and Japanese. So, at a certain point in time, the idea arose to create conditions for volunteers who know foreign languages to share their experience and knowledge with children from low-income families and with disabilities, with those who, due to the prevailing life circumstances, do not have the opportunity and access for additional, advanced learning of foreign languages. It was decided to start with English, as it is the most in demand.

The volunteers organized the educational process in an interesting way: there was no uniformity and monotony in presenting students and further taking notes of educational information. On the contrary, the presence of an interactive part, game moments, exercises related to the English language, the development of visual and imaginative thinking, quizzes and thematic classes. This volunteer initiative began in 2023, it brought back our volunteer guys from the Jeyhun volunteering center in Ashgabat -Natalia Arazdurdieva, Aigul Bekieva, Umida Saidova, Maryam Adayeva, Ogulnyazik Khidyrova, they were replaced by Abdulla Mashaev, Jennet Emudova, Gulovser Berdyeva, Aylar Amanova, Guljahan Berdyniyazova.

It is worth noting that such a process of teaching English to children, on the principle of "peer-to-peer", is a great opportunity for volunteers to show their communication skills, practice communicating with children and, possibly, discover pedagogical skills. We hope that our initiatives will be spread in other NRCST regions, and there will be initiative, energetic volunteers who will lead English language clubs in their places.

THE FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES

– Humanity

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, born of a desire to bring assistance
without discrimination to the wounded on the battlefield, endeavours, in its international and
national capacity, to prevent and alleviate human suffering wherever it may be found. Its purpose
is to protect life and health and to ensure respect for the human being. It promotes mutual
understanding, friendship, cooperation and lasting peace amongst all peoples.

– Impartiality

It makes no discrimination as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions. It
endeavors to relieve the suffering of individuals, being guided solely by their needs, and to give
priority to the most urgent cases of distress.

– Neutrality

In order to continue to enjoy the confidence of all, the Movement may not take sides in hostilities or
engage at any time in controversies of a political, racial, religious or ideological nature.

– Independence

The Movement is independent. The National Societies, while auxiliaries in the humanitarian services
of their governments and subject to the laws of their respective countries, must always maintain
their autonomy so that they may be able at all times to act in accordance with the principles of the
Movement.

– Voluntary service

It is a voluntary relief movement not prompted in any manner by desire for gain.

– Unity

There can be only one Red Cross or one Red Crescent Society in any one country. It must be open
to all. It must carry on its humanitarian work throughout its territory.

– Universality

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, in which all Societies have equal status
and share equal responsibilities and duties in helping each other, is worldwide.
