On May 8 and 9, Ashgabat volunteers of the National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan held a festive event on occasion of Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War.
They prepared a small concert program and, dividing into two teams, visited six female residents of Ashgabat, including home front workers, children of war and widows of veterans. The guys performed a concert for each of them: they sang wartime songs, recited poems and danced a waltz.
All veterans were presented with flowers and gifts from the Red Crescent.
The widow of a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, Abaydullina Faniya, and a veteran of the home front, Krutikova Sagida, told the children about the difficult days of the war, the period of occupation. They recalled how scary and hard it was for people then, but the strength of spirit and love for their land defeated the darkest forces.
Live communication with veterans impressed the volunteers very much. Such meetings give the younger generation the opportunity not to forget history, to love their homeland, to learn to respect the older generation.
