Along with other Red Crescent National Societies of Central Asia, National Red Crescent Society participated in an online consultation on the Creation Platforms for Humanitarian Diplomacy. The meeting was attended by the Director of the Regional Office Birgitte Bischoff Ebbesen, the Head of the IFRC Regional Office in Central Asia Seval Guzelkilinc, the Regional Head of Humanitarian Diplomacy and Relations Department Dick Klomen, as well as the Delegate for Humanitarian Diplomacy Joy Muller.

During the meeting, it was noted that the development of humanitarian diplomacy in the activities of National Societies contributes to the emergence of new opportunities and allows strengthening the potential of the organization, as a result of which National Societies will have the opportunity to transition to a leading and coordinating role on certain current goals and objectives in solving  humanitarian problems in cooperation with the international community, local authorities and population.

In turn, the National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan is developing an annual plan for 2024 on humanitarian diplomacy to identify points of contact between the activities of all department of the organization, determine the Development Strategy of the organization, and search for potential partners in promoting interests, which will help the National Society in developing a policy of humanitarian diplomacy in the country.

At the meeting it was noted, that all National Societies of Central Asia located in the same region with similar problems, difficulties and challenges that arise every day, therefore we propose organizing regional-level campaigns to promote, raise awareness and interact in the field of solving humanitarian issues.

The Humanitarian Diplomacy activities carried out by National Societies in the future  will allow  consolidating the efforts of the International Red Cross and Crescent Movement in the Central Asian region to constantly stimulate, support and facilitate all forms of humanitarian activities of National Societies and to  contribute  them in every possible way, in order to prevent and alleviate human suffering by contributing thus to the maintenance and strengthening of peace throughout the world.

THE FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES

– Humanity

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, born of a desire to bring assistance
without discrimination to the wounded on the battlefield, endeavours, in its international and
national capacity, to prevent and alleviate human suffering wherever it may be found. Its purpose
is to protect life and health and to ensure respect for the human being. It promotes mutual
understanding, friendship, cooperation and lasting peace amongst all peoples.

– Impartiality

It makes no discrimination as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions. It
endeavors to relieve the suffering of individuals, being guided solely by their needs, and to give
priority to the most urgent cases of distress.

– Neutrality

In order to continue to enjoy the confidence of all, the Movement may not take sides in hostilities or
engage at any time in controversies of a political, racial, religious or ideological nature.

– Independence

The Movement is independent. The National Societies, while auxiliaries in the humanitarian services
of their governments and subject to the laws of their respective countries, must always maintain
their autonomy so that they may be able at all times to act in accordance with the principles of the
Movement.

– Voluntary service

It is a voluntary relief movement not prompted in any manner by desire for gain.

– Unity

There can be only one Red Cross or one Red Crescent Society in any one country. It must be open
to all. It must carry on its humanitarian work throughout its territory.

– Universality

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, in which all Societies have equal status
and share equal responsibilities and duties in helping each other, is worldwide.
