In January 2024, the structure of the National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan began work on the project “Strengthening Local and National Capacities for Emergency Preparedness and Response in High Earthquake Risk and Natural Hazards Prone Countries of Central Asia”, funded by the International Federation of Red Crescent Societies Cross and Red Crescent.
The project is planned to be implemented until December 31, 2024. During the year, through the regional branches of the NRCST, new Public Committees will be opened in 15 communities of Turkmenistan. At the initial stage, introductory classes will be conducted with members of Public Committees on the rules of responding to emergency situations and the rules of first aid. In turn, members of the Public Committees will be required to conduct similar classes in their communities, thereby reaching a larger reach of recipients. Also, based on the proposals of the Public Committees, mitigation projects will be prepared and implemented, that is, projects aimed at reducing the risk of natural disasters.
Particular attention will be paid to working with young people, recruiting them as volunteers into the ranks of the National Society, preparing them for emergency situations and providing first aid to victims.
