On November 22, a seminar on procedures for determining the status of a stateless person was held in the conference hall of the National Red Crescent society of Turkmenistan, organized within the framework of the Joint Work Plan of the Government of Turkmenistan and the UNHCR for 2023.
The seminar was attended by representatives of the State Migration Service, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, NRCST, NGO "Keyik Okara", and UNHCR.
The seminar participants got acquainted in more detail with the main aspects of the procedure for determining the status of a stateless person by the norms of the 1954 and 1961 Conventions on Statelessness and its procedural guarantees. The existing effective trends and best practices in other countries were also discussed. In addition, the seminar provided a unique opportunity to receive information on the practical implementation of the procedure for determining the status of statelessness in Turkmenistan and to share the accumulated experience and knowledge among participants and experts.
